Edward Farmer
Conductor and Composer.
Edward has written music for over 40 short films and documentaries, with broadcasts on UK television. He has been nominated for the European Film Music award at the Soundtrack Cologne Festival, commissioned to compose a musical version of ‘Through the Looking Glass’ for the Edinburgh festival, and is composer in residence for People at Play theatre company. Clients include Brook Lapping/Ten Alps, London Film School, NYAC, and theatre work includes music for ‘Talking to Terrorists‘ (Stephen Joseph Theatre) and the 2009/2010 UK tour of ‘Stepping Out’ by Richard Harris. He was a participant in the Royal Opera House composers scheme 2010/11.
‘I have been writing music since very young, exploring a large range of genres, tonalities and styles. The music links below represent a cross section of my work to date. Some of the tracks have been recorded with live musicians (my favored working method) and others have been created using samples and digital orchestra. I have included some short descriptions in case you are a film maker looking for something in particular, but a bespoke commission is the only way to get music to really tell your story.’

A Hymn for New Orleans 2005-07 Jazz Suite for Symphony Orchestra
First written for Brass Octet this 12 minute piece is dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Taking influence from New Orleans’ rich musical heritage it is both a celebration and a mourning for the loss of a city.
